Okay, so I finally downloaded Firefox. Wow, what a difference. The speed increase is immediate. Why did I not do this sooner?? :Iconbanghead:

I even went over to the Scout board.. and WOW, the board actually functions properly.. or seems to. At least the threads load quickly and such. (But I will never tell them.. or Scotty! ) :chuckle:

Honestly IE7 is a little better now that it has the tabs and such but its hard to overlook the extensions in firefox!

I think IE7 sucks. It's a feeble attempt to copy FF and SEVERELY lacking.

It is an attempt to copy firefox..that being said, it isn't WORSE than ie6 as some seem to think..at least it has tabs...but its way behind firefox.

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

I have been using it since right after it came out. I hate to go over to IE for anything however there is one site that IE works better on so I use it for that.

I'm the same...i have a few sites that work better in IE...so I still use it a bit..plus at work we use IE primarily.

OK, I might finally download it tonight. What are the "extensions" I need?

hipsterdoofus

Extensions are really a personal preference...I personally use quite a few but the most useful ones in my opinion are gmail manager, forecastfox enhanced, and google browser sync...I am going to go ahead and move this thread over to Format C: as its a more appropriate place for this, I think others may want to suggest extensions...

I've been using Firefox so long, I was using it when it was called Phoenix.....:redthumb:

EDIT: oh extensions.....

Adblock should be number one on your list.
Then FiltersetG updater
I like Zoomy...however, the developer quit working on it, and I had to hack on it slightly to get it to work on FF2. Zoomy allows you to increase or decrease font sizes on pages at will...no matter what formatting the page is constructed with. Great stuff
Fasterfox
Bugmenot
The gmail extensions hipster talked of...

There are literally thousands...some of them worthless, some of them priceless.

Some are coded poorly, and result in large memory leaks for FF....so before you add one, you might investigate it a bit

Have fun

I have been using Firefox forever. I love it. I only use IE if there is a site that won't work with Firefox.

What is Fasterfox?

Gina, Fasterfox is an extension that tweaks Firefox and will make it peform better on some websites.

Sieve, go here (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/browse/type:1) for extensions....

GLS, interestingly enough fasterfox was on a list the other day of worst firefox extensions...for the reason that it does very large amounts of caching depending on it is set up, which is somewhat wasteful...basically the author said fasterfox is good if used correctly, but not so much if not used correctly.

GLS

interesting hipster...I'll look into that.

Also, I saw that you mentioned using IE for certain sites...I forgot that I have IEtab installed...you might check that out...

Sieve, I just downloaded Firefox yesterday too. I found this article pretty helpful on extensions. http://www.computerworld.com/action/article.do?command=viewArticleBasic&articleId=9011975

I'm pretty sure that's what was making my CPU peek at 100% I removed it and FF is still as fast witout the CPU problem...

Depending on how it is set, fasterfox will pre-cache all the links on the pages you are on...depending on what page it is, and if it has a ton of links, that may be a lot of caching you don't need...
